Information about the gems used in this pendant
The birthstone for March, aquamarine is a blue variety of beryl. It derives its name from Latin: aqua marina meaning ‘water of the sea’. Aquamarine gemstones are usually completely flawless! The colours range from pale blue to light green. It has been much prized since ancient times by sailors and seafarers who believe the stone will attract good luck and prosperity on sea voyages. The Romans believed that if an aquamarine was carved into the shape of a frog, it would reconcile enemies and and settle old scores. Another Roman legend tells that the stone can absorb the essence of young love. Whatever the truth to these legends, one thing is for certain, aquamarine is an incredibly beautiful gem.
What is a Lavalier/Lavaliere/lavalliere?
A lavalier is an item of jewellery consisting of a pendant, sometimes with one stone, suspended from a necklace. The lines created by a lavalier are clean and elegant. Finely crafted gold with beautiful detail, typically ending in a single gemstone. Lavalier necklaces have existed in some form for hundreds of years, but really became increasingly popular at the beginning of the 20th century.
