Information about the gems used in this pendant
Garnet is the birthstone of January. It has been used since the bronze age for gemstones. Garnet is a very popular gemstone and was a favourite gemstone of Victorian royalty, Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs and the Roman Elite. It is the most well-known dark red gemstone but it also comes in a variety of colours and most garnets are untreated. Colour Changing Garnet has sparked recent interest, and it is most often used in rings, Demantoid Garnet is the rarest and most valuable variety of January’s birthstone. Other forms of Garnets such as orange Spessartite, yellow Grossular and black Melanite are also used as gemstones.
What is a Lavalier/Lavaliere/lavalliere?
A lavalier is an item of jewellery consisting of a pendant, sometimes with one stone, suspended from a necklace. The lines created by a lavalier are clean and elegant. Finely crafted gold with beautiful detail, typically ending in a single gemstone. Lavalier necklaces have existed in some form for hundreds of years, but really became increasingly popular at the beginning of the 20th century.
