Description
A beautiful pair of Victorian vulcanite drop earrings with 9ct gold ear wired and silver connectors.
This lovely pair have been beautifully moulded and have a really lovely shape to them.
Black jewellery was very much en Vogue during the Victorian era, largely, but not always used as mourning pieces. Vulcanite (also known as ebonite) was invented in 1845 by Thomas Hancock to keep up with the demand for beautiful and sophisticated black jewellery.
Please do note, you will often see vulcanite jewellery miss-classified as Whitby jet, but vulcanite is much more easily moulded (rather than carved) as is the case with this pair of earrings.

L: 45.3mm drop
W: 19.3mm (at widest point)
