Description
Beautiful antique Etruscan revival bar brooch with diamond and ruby highlights and embossed & applied decoration. Crafted and hallmarked for 15ct gold and in wonderful antique condition.
As this piece does not have a date letter or assay office mark, accurate dating is a challenge. 15ct gold was used between 1854 and 1931 and based on the style of this brooch, it is either late Victorian, early Edwardian.
More about the Etruscan Revival in Jewellery
Etruscan Revival jewellery reflects the fascination of Victorian era women with the Etruscans. The Etruscans were an ancient people who lived on the west coast of Italy between 700-300 BC. The discovery of Etruscan tombs in the 19th century inspired many Etruscan Revival jewellery collections in high carat yellow gold often with gemstones.
